Born December 31, 1942 in Rockford, Illinois, Marjorie Brookman Marlowe was the daughter of Byron C. “Barney” and Jane Dolbear (Smith) Marlowe. She married Thomas William Ortciger in November of 1964 and had one son, Edward. Marjorie was a philanthropist and her ventures included the Rosecrance Marlowe Recovery house for teenage girls ages 15-18 in Rockford, Illinois, the University of Nevada at Reno women’s basketball team, and was instrumental in starting the program Crones Coin, for older women to return to school and further their education.
She served extensively as a volunteer throughout her life, sharing her time and many talents with such things as Valley of the Kings in Wisconsin; Progressive Leadership Alliance, Nevada; NPR pledge drives; the Rainbow Community Center, helping out in the Reno Coop as she believed in community supported agriculture. She participated yearly in the Reno Senior Games and competed in archery, mini-golf, snowshoeing, and attending Reno pride.
Marjorie loved life! Her joy was spending time with her family, her many friends and her cats.
