Jane was also awarded her OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner Certificate in 1985 from Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
Jane married D. Stephen Kiley on August 23, 1969 in Arthur, IL. They had known each other for as long as they could remember, even being baptized together and growing up down the street from each other (but in different counties) in Atwood, IL. Jane and Steve lived in Freeport from 1972 to 1987. During this time they had two sons, Dana and Derek. In 1987 they moved their family to Rockford.
As a nurse, Jane worked in many settings in Freeport and Rockford. After earning her NP certificate in 1985, her career provided her the opportunity to work in several practice settings in Rockford and surrounding communities including independent practices, Winnebago and DeKalb County Health Departments, Crusader Clinic, and Swedish American Health System. Jane was instrumental in the launch of the Swedish American Center for Women in 2001.
Jane had a significant impact on countless lives during her career. She had many roles including healthcare provider, educator, mentor and advocate to name a few. Jane was one of the founding members and on the first board of directors for the Illinois Society for Advanced Practice Nursing (ISAPN). She worked tirelessly to advance the Nurse Practitioner profession and for prescriptive rights for Nurse Practitioners in the state of Illinois. Jane also served as a preceptor/mentor to numerous advanced practice nurses and enjoyed educating both fellow healthcare providers as well as patients through the many lectures she was asked to give on women’s health topics.
Jane served on the boards of MELD, Northern Illinois Hospice, and Crusader Community Health Foundation. She also served several years on ClubBlue, which held fundraisers to serve children in need in the greater Rockford community. Jane was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and a member of PEO, Chapter ET.
Jane found joy in various aspects of life with a particular affinity for books, her bridge club and book club, quilts, antiques, hearts, and her grandchildren. She cherished lengthy discussions during dinners with friends and family. Additionally, she was an ardent supporter of her grandchildren, relishing the opportunity to attend their sporting events, plays and recitals.
Survived by her husband, Stephen; sons, Dana (Brenda) Kiley and Derek (Erin) Kiley; grandchildren, Bryn, Madeline, Layla and Samuel; and sister-in-law Jan Kiley. Predeceased by her parents; and brother, Samuel R. Born, II.
