Kurt Boucek was an adjunct music instructor at Rock Valley College.

Kurt was a passionate musician and music educator. He taught private trumpet lessons and loved teaching music to musicians of all ages. At the time of his death, he was teaching at McIntosh Elementary School, Rock Valley College and Rockford College.

The Moonlight Jazz Orchestra is just one of many bands Kurt performed in. Others include 25 or 6 to 4, Jack Farina Big Band, Clutch Cargo, Rock Valley College Band and Starlight Theater.

Family and friends of Kurt C. Boucek have established a memorial scholarship fund at the Rock Valley College Foundation to be awarded each year to a qualifying student studying to be a music educator or trumpet performer. The scholarship may be used to cover tuition, fees, and books.

OBITUARY
KURT C. BOUCEK, 55 ROCKFORD – Kurt C. Boucek, 55, of Rockford died Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at the University of Wisconsin Medical Center in Madison. Born March 28, 1957, in Elgin, son of John J. and Margaret R. (Barwinkel) Boucek. Kurt grew up in Cary and graduated from Cary Grove High School in 1975. He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1979 with a BA in communications. Returned to NIU and received an MA in music and a music teaching certificate in 2006. Rockford resident for the past 30 years. Married Eileen Frisk on May 19, 1984. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Kurt was a passionate musician and music educator. He played with many bands and music groups through the years; some of which were Moonlight Jazz Orchestra, 25 or 6 to 4, Jack Farina Big Band, Clutch Cargo, Rock Valley College Band and Starlight Theater. He taught private trumpet lessons and loved teaching music to all ages, and was presently teaching at McIntosh Elementary School, Rock Valley College and Rockford College. He also enjoyed instructing teachers to teach music. He loved his family, always enjoyed fishing and his dog held a special place in his heart. Survivors include wife, Eileen; sons, Brian (Katie) Boucek and Andrew Boucek; father, John J. Boucek; siblings, Karen (Ward) Senn, John Boucek III and Barbara (Cliff) Edwards; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother; grandparents; and best friend, Kevin Petersen. Memorial service to celebrate his life at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Storck officiating. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 8, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., and from 10 a.m. Monday to time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a music scholarship fund that will be established in Kurt’s name.
