Kamesha Spates is the daughter of Bobbie Lee Spates.

This scholarship was established to honor the remarkable life and legacy of Mrs. Bobbie Lee Spates. A beloved member of the Rockford community, Bobbie demonstrated a spirit of hard work, profound care for her family, and an enduring commitment to her community.

Bobbie’s career spanned multiple roles at National Lock, the Ramada Hotel, and finally at Rockford Memorial Hospital, before her well-deserved retirement. Beyond her professional life, she was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and caregiver, embodying the values of resilience, devotion, and generosity.

This scholarship seeks to recognize and support students who reflect Bobbie’s resilient spirit and her commitment to family and community. Preference will be given to an African American first-generation college student, honoring Bobbie’s years of service at Rockford Memorial Hospital.

In memory of Bobbie’s extraordinary dedication, this scholarship aims to alleviate the financial burden for deserving students, enabling them to focus on their education and their goal of positively impacting their community. Bobbie’s life was a shining example of the power of hard work, dedication, and love. This scholarship aims to ensure her legacy continues to inspire and foster these values within the RVC student body.

BOBBIE LEE SPATES OBITUARY
Bobbie Lee Spates, 92, of Rockford departed this earthly life, Monday September 16, 2019 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born September 16, 1927 in Dawson, GA the daughter of John Lovett and Carrie Jones. She moved to Rockford from Dawson, GA. Married Roy Spates Sr. in Rockford. She was employed at National Lock for many years, Ramada Hotel, and retired from Rockford Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Christian Union Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Scott. Member of the Princess Zora O.E.S. She was a dedicated mother, wife, and care giver. Bobbie leaves to cherish many loving memories 2 sons, Lester Spates, Roy (Barbara) Spates Jr.; 4 daughters, Phyllis (Evan) Titus, Lenora Brown, Cynthia Spates, Kamesha (Elbert) Spates-Washington; 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 13 great great-grandchildren; brother James (Penelope) Jones; special niece Stephanie Walker, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by parents, brother, 2 sisters Clara M. Fobbs and Elizabeth Howard, and son Charles Spates.
