OBITUARY
Betty Jo Fernandez, 57, of Rockford, died at 6:40 am. Tuesday, Dec, 1, 1998, in her residence. Born Feb. 6, 1941, In Rockford, daughter of Joseph and Juanita (Cutler) Carter. Lived most of her life in the Rockford area. Married Ricardo Fernandez in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Sept 13,1963. Employed as a division secretary for Math and Humanities at Rock Valley College for 15 years. Member of St Bernadette Catholic Church. Her life has been dedicated to her family and the betterment of children. She was actively involved in many organizations. The cause closest to her heart was C.A.S.A. (Court Appointed Special Advocate). Her role In C.A.S.A. was to be a child’s voice in the court system and through this she touched many families’ lives. In her job at Rock valley College, she was very active with students as an adviser, mentor and friend. In the past she also was actively involved, for many years, with the Phantom Regiment and as a foster parent. She touched many lives with her warmth, kindness and generosity. Of all the roles she had in her life, she will be most missed as mother. Her love and support have been the driving force in the life of her family. She will live on in the hearts and actions of her family and friends because she made us all better people. Survivors include husband, Ricardo; three daughters, Michelle (Dan) Rojo and Jennifer Fernandez of Chicago and Nicole (Michael) Ranz of Rockford; two sons, Roger (Kristina) Fernandez of Rockford and Frank Fernandez of Dixon; two grand­sons, Alex Rojo of Chicago and Mason Fernandez of Rockford: two brothers, Fred (Kris) Carter of Boston and Timothy (Pam) Carter of Rockford; brother-in-law, Jose (Carol) Fernandez of Rockford; sister-in-law and best friend, Maria (Delma) Penn of Rockford and her children, Rick (Tina) and Carlos (Cami); several loved nieces and nephews, Angie, Wendy, Brian, Theresa, Melissa and Savannah. Predeceased by parents.
